Perfect Day at Coco Cay
What is Coco Cay?
Coco Cay is Royal Caribbean’s private island in the Bahamas. They have many free things to do on the island, but if you are looking to do anything adventurous on the island, it will be an extra charge.
Free Things To Do:
There are a handful of free things to do, and most of the time we stick with the free things. The pool and beaches all include chairs and umbrellas on a first-come-first-serve basis, but I have never had difficulty finding multiple chairs together.
Oasis Lagoon
Chill Island
Harbor Beach
South Beach
Splashaway Bay
Food
Drinks (as long as you have a drink package)
What Costs Extra?
There are quite a few things that cost extra, but you don’t need to spend the extra money to have fun!
Below is a list of what costs extra:
Thrill Waterpark
Zip Line
Up Up & Away Helium Balloon
Beach Cabanas
Day Beds
Coco Beach Club
Floating Beach Mats
Snorkel with Royal Caribbean Gear
*There are other excursions that you can book, but it can vary by cruise so be sure to check your cruise planner.
*Money Saving Tip: Bring your own snorkel gear! It doesn't take up too much room in a suitcase, and it saves you from having to rent it from Royal for a fee. This way you’ll have it for all ports too!
From this list of paid things to do, we have purchased 2 — the Floating Beach Mats and the Zip Line… but the Zip Line wasn’t planned!
Let’s get into it!
Were the Floating Beach Mats worth it?
Yes! At the right cost…
We paid around $10 CAD per mat (we got 4 — one for each of us) on a 3-night sailing and it was great to float on the water rather than just sit in our beach loungers. The mats are large and 100% buoyant which is awesome!
We looked into getting them again on our 8-night sailing, but they’re being sold for $25 CAD per mat. We can’t justify that cost for 4 people, but if we were only buying them for 2 people I would have done it.
Was the Zip Line worth it?
Yes! But only once.
This was the one we didn’t plan on doing… We booked the Up Up & Away Helium Balloon, but when we got there, it was cancelled because it was too windy. We were given the option for a full refund or to Zip Line instead. We chose to do the Zip Line!
The Helium Balloon was around $30 CAD per person (it was on a deep discount), and ended up getting to do the Zip Line for that cost instead which is typically around $100 CAD per person, so we feel like we got an awesome deal.
